Last of the Summer Wine

I regret to inform you of our espresso's passing this week. The Yirgacheffe, Addis Ketema was an exceptional bean that redefined the expressive capabilities of espresso here at the shop. There was as much depth of character in that single lot as any blend I've ever tasted but it does show how the uniqueness of estate coffee can be a double-edged sword sometimes: The characteristics that made our espresso so distinctive are now conspicuously absent. We've tried a number of espressos in the last couple of weeks but are still looking for something to make us fall in love again.

It's kind of sad but at the same time it also gives us the opportunity to reevaluate ourselves and our tastes. The world is full of flavor, after all, and I'm excited about finding a new espresso. It will have to be something unique of course, something special. In fact, I would say it has to be

... staggering, spellbinding and totally unexpected.

So no dirge for the lost Addis Ketema. A fond adieu then and on to the next bag!

On another note, our new menu is up! We subtracted a couple of items to make room for two special drinks, our Espresso Flip and our Iced Espresso Tisane.

They are based on the drinks we used at the Southeast Regional Barista Competition. The former made it all the way to the finals but we expect the latter to be more popular in the shop. Come by and tell us which one you prefer.
