Coffee on Ice

Since the vivisectioning of our menu during the Ten Mandates we have not had any iced coffee here at the shop. One of the first things we cut out was toddy/cold-brewed coffee because it never tasted quite like what I wanted and never moved quickly enough to stay fresh.

But the summer is here and even inside the Mall cold drinks are de rigueur. So coffee over ice had to come back in some form or another. We played around with various methods and counted out the iced americano and french press over ice pretty quickly. However, the "Japanese Style" method of brewing iced coffee has been in vogue lately so we had someone build us a pour over station to give it a try.

And we liked.

So, for the rest of the summer we will have fresh-brewed iced coffee available at our new pour over station for the same price as a french press. It will be available by the cup for any of the coffees we serve so come by and check it out!

So you are doing pour-over now? Are you using the Fetco for the water, or an external kettle? I know how you feel about the ice drinks, I've been making my share of shaken lattes lately for guests. One thing of note, East African coffees are really tricky iced. The acidity can go nuts real quick.

We only use the pour over for iced coffee at the moment. We've invested too much (financially and in good will) into french press to change after only a couple of months. We brew hot coffee on it only for the guy that built it.

As for our water source, we bought a Newco water tower. It's easily programmable and can go up to 208.

I have to disagree with you about the east african acidity thing though - at least so far. I think the acidity might be balancing out the coffee and makes it more refreshing. But we're actually using a very clean, fruity Sumatran (the Blue Batak) at the moment and I am having fits over it. So so good!
